One of our later projects in first year was called 'Line and Colour' and focused on the editorial aspects of illustration. Within this we worked to various deadlines and developed and created a selection of book covers and accompanying drawings for specified articles.
One of the book covers I was given to illustrate was ‘Scenes of Academic Life’. The brief included working in line using only black and white to create the work. It was at this point in time that I started to use the print rooms more. This, along with the development of my ideas resulted in the piece above.
When reading the synopsis of ‘The Kiss’ I discovered its story revolves around secrets and shrouded figures. The brief for this cover included the use of colour, although, as you can see from my two final options, I only developed red into the concluding image.
